SELF-DETERMINATION PROGRAM

What Makes SDP Different?

California's Self-Determination Program (SDP) gives eligible Regional Center participants greater choice and control over how their services and supports are planned.

Participants can explore services, supports, and providers that align with their personal goals and Individual Program Plan (IPP), within their Individual Budget and applicable SDP requirements.

These choices are documented in a Spending Plan and implemented according to program requirements.

You don't need to know everything before you begin.

Learn more about SDP

In SDP, participants use their Individual Budget to identify services and providers that support their goals and organize those choices into a Spending Plan.

The process may involve the Regional Center, FMS, providers, and other parties. Understanding each role and step can help participants and families make informed choices and move forward with greater clarity.

SERVICES

Turn the life you want
into an actionable plan.

What does an Independent Facilitator do?

We help you understand available services and support, with the participant’s voice and goals at the center, and turn choices into a practical plan.

01

Person-Centered Planning

We explore the participant’s current life, strengths, interests, relationships, and future goals to identify what matters most to them. From there, we organize needed supports and services and help connect those priorities to a Person-Centered Plan that can inform the IPP and SDP planning process.

We center your goals and wishes at the start of planning.
